Sustainability Guide Plan

In 2009, the City of Burnsville adopted the City’s first Sustainability Guide Plan. The City was one of the first in Minnesota to create a Sustainability Plan. The guide plan provides practical ideas, activities and strategies for the city organization and the community that would make Burnsville more sustainable in future years. The intent of the Sustainability Guide Plan is:

The City of Burnsville will promote development that maintains or enhances economic opportunity and community well-being while protecting and restoring the natural environment upon which people and economies depend. Sustainability meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

As recommended by the original Sustainability Guide Plan, the City is now beginning a planning effort to update the Sustainability Guide Plan to reflect the City’s current conditions, build on the City’s past sustainability achievements, and to identify goals and strategies to guide the City’s sustainability efforts in the coming years.
