MUD Jeans is a Dutch denim brand that dreams of a world in which there is no such thing as waste. MUD Jeans introduced the Lease A Jeans concept. An innovative approach of offering jeans for lease. After all, why owning a pair of jeans for life while you are just interested in the performance of those jeans? With Lease A Jeans people don’t actually own jeans, but rather wear them for a certain period of time. After a year leasing they can switch to a new pair and send the old ones back for recycling. This is revolutionary in the role of a brand, because the interaction between a brand and the consumer does not stop at the purchasing stage as it does with many other brands today. When the jeans are returned they are recycled into new products such as sweaters or new jeans

Circular and Sustainable

We are the first circular fashion brand in the world. From the start, our philosophy is based on the principles of the circular economy. It’s in our DNA. Our roots are in the circular economy. That means not only recycling but also design to be made again. Our jeans are made in such a way that they are easy to recycle. When the jeans are returned to us we upcycle them into vintage pieces and eventually recycle the materials and use them for new items, such as new jeans or sweaters and cut down on resources. We are closing our own denim loop.

Circular Design

In the circular economy, products are designed to be reused. We ditched the standard leather labels and use printed ones at the back of our jeans.

Upcycle

Many returned jeans look awesome. That’s why they’re upcycled and sold as unique vintage pairs. The jeans are named after the former user.

Recycle

This is where the fun begins. The jeans are shredded, cut into pieces and blended with virgin cotton. This is how a new denim yarn is born. Recycling reduces water use with 50%.

Carbon Offset

Closing the loop includes tracking our carbon emissions, working to reduce them, and offsetting the balance.

MUD Jeans Climate Work

We are certified carbon offset.  Our work with BLUEdot Register has been able to eliminate nearly our entire carbon footprint.  Every MUD jean is responsible for a carbon offset equal to the entire supply chain emissions - right down to the harvesting of the organic and recycled cotton used in each MUD jean.

As of 31 December, 2022 MUD Jeans' Carbon Offset commitment has eliminated 4,272,289 pounds of Greenhouse Gas.  This is equivalent to avoiding 38,023,372 cubic feet of human-made atmosphere.
