Progress Report

In January 2016 the City of Maplewood engaged paleBLUEdot LLC to prepare a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) baseline inventory for City-Wide emissions as well as for City Operations. The results of that GHG Baseline effort were published in June of 2016. In February 2024, the City of Maplewood engaged paleBLUEdot to prepare a City-Wide and City Operations GHG Inventory Update for the year 2022 (FY2022). The results of this update as well as a comparison against the Baseline Inventory is included in the report below.

This Greenhouse Gas Inventory Update report is designed to meet the requirements for the Greenstep Cities program, but also to provide a framework for on-going dialogue in support of the City’s commitment to the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and the sustainability goals included in the City’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan.

The City’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan established a goal of reducing community-wide GHG emissions 80% by 2040. The 2022 GHG inventory shows the City is close to being on track to meet that goal, however, emissions have increased over the last two years indicating an opportunity to increase efforts at reducing community-wide emissions.
