paleBLUEdot Selected for Town of Hartford Carbon Neutral Climate Action Plan

paleBLUEdot was selected by the Town of Hartford for the community’s first Climate Action Plan.  The Town of Hartford, Vermont is a community of around 10,000 residents. The Town has been dedicated to climate and energy issues for many years, and its focus on these topics has become increasingly strong in recent years. In 2007, Hartford became one of the first towns in the State of Vermont to form an Energy Commission, dedicated to reducing energy consumption and increasing Hartford’s share of renewable energy.  

In 2019, the Town passed a ballot resolution committing the Town municipal operations to Carbon Neutrality by 2027 and establishing a path towards community-wide carbon neutrality by 2030.  The Town Selectboard has engaged paleBLUEdot in preparing an assessment of local greenhouse gas emissions and climate impacts and to develop the Town’s first Carbon Neutral Climate Action Plan. 

The paleBLUEdot Climate Action Plan effort will include:

  1. Development of community-wide and Village Operations Greenhouse Gas Inventory and analysis for years 2013, 2016, and 2019.

  2. Development of a Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessment meeting Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) requirements

  3. Conducting a community-wide Ground Cover, Heat Island, and Carbon Sequestration Assessment and Recommendations report.

  4. Development of a community-wide Renewable Energy Potentials study

  5. Creation of a community-wide Climate Action Baseline Assessment and Carbon Neutral Pathways report defining a community-specific emissions mitigation strategies to achieve Carbon Neutrality

  6. Recommend community-specific climate adaptation and mitigation actions that the Town and community can undertake with an analysis of barriers and opportunities.

  7. Leading Climate Action Planning Public Engagement

  8. Development of the Climate Action Plan and Implementation Matrix

  9. Identification of Top Climate Action project priorities for the first year of climate action implementation
