EV Ready Guidelines

Research has shown that electric vehicles (EVs) are better for the environment. They emit fewer greenhouse gases and air pollutants than gasoline or diesel cars, even when taking into account their production and electricity generation to keep them running. As a cleaner alternative, EVs are an important step in sustainable transportation and they can be a cost-effective way to reduce transportation expenses. Increasing the adoption of electric vehicles is an important strategy for communities with renewable energy or climate action goals.

To ensure all individuals can make the choice to switch to an electric vehicle, local governments have to think about how placement of charging stations can support the wide spread adoption of the technology while being used to help economic development, and how that infrastructure can be distributed equitably to bring the benefits to all sectors of the community.

EV Ready Guidelines assist the residents and businesses owners in the community in taking advantage of the benefits and quality-of-life improvements of transitioning to vehicles electric vehicles (EV). They can also be combined with a community-wide charging station distribution study and implementation plan to guide appropriate short and long-term infrastructure development. Establishing a community specific EV Ready Guide provides a customized community specific educational resource and EV advancement implementation tool for communities.
