New Brighton Selects paleBLUEdot for Climate Action Planning

The City of New Brighton has selected paleBLUEdot for the community’s first Climate Action Plan.  New Brighton is a community of 23,454 people. It is ideally located equidistant from the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul, a 30 minute ride from the Twin Cities International Airport.

The City wishes to build on its past and current sustainability efforts by establishing mid and long-term climate action goals and creating a pathway of actions to achieve these goals.  The City Council has engaged paleBLUEdot in preparing an assessment of local greenhouse gas emissions and climate impacts and to develop the City’s first Climate Action Plan. 

The paleBLUEdot Climate Action Plan effort will include:

  1. Development of community-wide and City Operations Greenhouse Gas Inventory and analysis for three subject years as well as a Business-as-usual forecast of GHG emissions for years 2030, 2040, and 2050.

  2. Development of a Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessment meeting Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) requirements

  3. Conducting a community-wide Ground Cover, Heat Island, and Carbon Sequestration Assessment and Recommendations report.

  4. Development of a community-wide Renewable Energy Potentials study

  5. Creation of a community-wide Climate Action Baseline Assessment and Strategic Goals Recommendations report defining a community-specific emissions mitigation targets and goals

  6. Recommend community-specific climate adaptation and mitigation actions that the City and community can undertake with an analysis of barriers and opportunities.

  7. Leading Climate Action Planning Public Engagement, with a particular focus on outreach and inclusion with an equity focus

  8. Development of the Climate Action Plan and Implementation Matrix

  9. Identification of Top Climate Action project priorities for the first year of climate action implementation
