North Mankato, MN — The City of North Mankato has chosen paleBLUEdot, a Minnesota-based sustainability and climate consulting firm, to develop its first-ever Climate Action Plan.
With more than 14,000 residents, North Mankato has steadily advanced sustainability initiatives in recent years. The Climate Action Plan marks a significant next step—establishing long-term strategies to cut greenhouse gas emissions, prepare for climate impacts, and foster a resilient community for future generations.
The planning process will include a thorough greenhouse gas inventory, climate vulnerability assessment, and comprehensive studies on tree canopy, carbon sequestration, and renewable energy potential. It will also identify practical strategies tailored to North Mankato’s unique needs. Robust community engagement, with a strong focus on equity, will ensure that resident voices guide the city’s priorities.
Mayor Carlson remarked during the Council work session, "This plan is about more than just numbers—it's about protecting our environment, ensuring equity, and preparing North Mankato to thrive for generations to come." This sentiment underscores the city’s dual focus on environmental stewardship and community well‑being.
